Generation X is defined as all of the people born between 1964 and 1978 (give or take). Those of us in Generation X do things differently and as we were growing up created a number of fun, exciting sports like skateboarding, mountain biking, snow boarding and BMX. Adventure sports competitions like the X-Games on ESPN were then produced as a way to introduce the world to the amazing physical feats performed by these athletes.
Physical activity is key for long term health. Physical activity includes all kinds of general movements that are performed throughout the day while exercises is a specific type of physical activity performed for the purpose of a particular outcome. We all know that exercise is important and can provide many benefits including optimal health. What many people do NOT know is the secret for how to make physical activity a lifelong activity, however those of us in Generation X have learned this secret and you’re going to learn it on this episode of All About Fitness.
Generation X is now in our 40s and 50s; many of us in this age bracket get exercise NOT in the four walls of a gym but out in the natural environment enjoying activities like mountain biking, surfing, downhill skiing and snowboarding. Yes, going to a gym to exercise is important, yet the REAL secret to long-term health and wellness is being physically active in all parts of life, not just in the four walls of a gym. Many physical activities provide the types of stimuli that lead physical benefits, however only a few types of exercise can provide important mental benefits and even fewer create the level of enjoyment that lead to a lifetime of health and wellness.
