Dr. Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi is the Distinguished Professor in Psychology and Management at Claremont Graduate University in southern California who has helped pioneer the field of positive psychology by extensively studying the Flow State, a mental state of hyper focus allowing you to function effortlessly at a high level of performance. Dr. Csikszentmihalyi has published numerous journal articles and books on the role that intrinsic motivation plays in achieving flow.

Dr. Csikszentmihalyi has identified nine components of the flow state including: the challenge-skill balance, clarity of goals, immediate and unambiguous feedback, the ability to concentrate and be caught up in the moment, and loss of self-consciousness. On this episode of All About Fitness we discuss various strategies for achieving a flow state in order to function at a high level of performance.
